Madiba: The Life and Times of Nelson Mandela (2004)
July 23rd, Monday @ 7:30 p.m.

This Canadian documentary traces the remarkable life of Nelson Mandela from the rebellious child of a Xhosa chief to lawyer, revolutionary outlaw to prisoner and then to the democratically elected President of South Africa. Numerous interviews with Mandela and others plus film footage from various stages of his life reveal the Mandela behind the romantic hero myth. Mandela talks of his love of children, the pain of his marriage, how apartheid affected him, facing the death sentence, how he survived prison, won over his enemies and overcame prejudice. Now 94 (as of July 18) and one of the great figures of our times, Mandela’s story is the story of modern South Africa.

Doors open at 7:00. This series is sponsored by The Friends of the Mill Valley Library. For more Programs and Events at the Library, see the Library Events Calendar.
