City Calendar

 Based on Elizabeth von Arnim's novel, four dissimilar women in 1920s England leave their damp and rainy environs to go on a holiday to a secluded coastal castle in Italy. Lottie (Josie Lawrence) and Rose (Miranda Richardson) are distant acquaintances both struggling to make the best of unhappy marriages. They decide to escape to Italy. To defray expenses, they reluctantly take on the waspish, elderly Mrs. Fisher (Joan Plowright) and the beautiful but aloof Caroline (Polly Walker). The four women come together and find rejuvenation in the tranquil beauty of the Amalfi coast, rediscovering hope, love--and men, too. The film also stars Alfred Molina, Jim Broadbent and Michael Kitchen. Directed by Mike Newell, Enchanted April was nominated for three Oscars.
