Building Bridges Book Club is an opportunity to read and discuss a book of poems with others who appreciate poetry and would like to take a closer look at form, structure, and craft. Discussions will be lively and interactive, and participants will have a chance to share thoughts and ask questions. Come prepared to read your favorite poems, lines, and passages aloud.
December's selection: Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair by Pablo Neruda
Discussion led by Ann Huang
Pablo Neruda’s Los veinte poemas de amor y una cancion desesperada / Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair (Spanish and English edition) epitomized the wit of a generation of hot-blood poets, writers and artists in rediscovering human condition in the defining and turning point of the past century. They taught us to face our shared earthly space (mother land and nature) in our own skin, of having lost our mothers, and to reminisce what time has left us. Love is meant to be lived twice.
ANN HUANG is a Chinese-born, Mexican-raised and US-educated author, poet, visual artist, and filmmaker who published four award-winning collections, most recently A Shaft of Light. She is visual arts editor for NewFound Journal and traveling show manager for Marin Poetry Center. Ann lives in Newport Beach, California with her beloved Frenchie, Miss Asia.
