A plastic-free Thanksgiving: It's as easy as pie!

Cutlery and Thanksgiving LeavesThese easy tips will help you ditch the plastic (LINK) and have a more homegrown and sustainable holiday gathering (LINK). Getting ready to set the table: think fall leaves and branches, not trinkets for your banquet decor. Pass on the prepackaged, plastic wrapped food and indulge in some home cooking.

A little extra planning can help reduce food waste too- saving you money and reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions.  In the US, food waste (LINK) is the largest category of garbage dumped in municipal landfills, releasing an enormous amount of greenhouse gases as it decomposes. Simply by diverting your food scraps to the compost you cut out the harmful methane emissions and help load the soil with healthy nutrients.

While you're counting your blessings, remember to give thanks for our local refuse teams who help make composting practical and easy.
