[ARCHIVED] East Blithedale Construction Update - March 17, 2023

East Blithedale Project Logo

Sycamore Avenue and East Blithedale Avenue Paving

If the wet weather subsides, then paving could begin in the last week of March 2023.

Project managers anticipate Sycamore Avenue will take a week to grind and pave the roadway. Please see the Sycamore Avenue Paving Plan for more details.

East Blithedale Avenue is anticipated to take 2 weeks to grind and pave. The paving limits for East Blithedale Avenue will be from Sunnyside Avenue to Thalia Avenue. Flagged one-way traffic control will be in effect.

Please expect delays and use Miller Avenue to avoid backups. All work progress is weather-dependent.

We recommend motorists follow the posted speed limits and proceed with caution as East Blithedale Avenue remains an active work zone.

What Is Happening This Upcoming Week: March 20th

  • East Blithedale Rehabilitation Phase 3 – Sunnyside Avenue to Thalia Avenue: Argonaut Constructors will continue preparing the underground utilities in advance of the upcoming paving on East Blithedale Avenue.

Preparing the underground utilities involves lowering (before paving) and raising (after paving) underground infrastructure such as manholes, water and gas valve boxes. These are lowered ahead of paving to avoid obstruction with the pavement grinder and they are raised afterwards so that workers can access them in the future. This is why you often see work crews digging into newly paved roads. They are uncovering and raising the utilities for future access.

  • PG&E Project – Elm Avenue (east) to Elm Avenue (west): PG&E will continue lowering residential gas services. Their work is necessary for Argonaut Constructors to rebuild the roadway structure without obstructions from those services.

Please note that parking will not be available during the daytime construction, but residents may park on East Blithedale Avenue during evening hours. Please read the posted “No Parking” signs for hours of construction.

Upcoming Work: Week of March 27th

  • Sycamore Avenue Paving – East Blithedale Avenue to La Goma Street: Argonaut will pave Sycamore Avenue in two stages. Stage 1 will pave from Fern Avenue to La Goma Street. Stage 2 will pave East Blithedale Avenue to Fern Avenue. Please see the Sycamore Avenue Paving Plan for more details.

  • PG&E Project – Elm Avenue (east) to Elm Avenue (west): PG&E will continue lowering residential natural gas services. Their work is progressing east to west. PG&E will be replacing 200 feet of an aging natural gas main from East Blithedale Avenue up Alta Vista Avenue.
