The City of Mill Valley was selected by Caltrans for a state Highway Safety Improvement Program guard-rail replacement project.
The project will upgrade a total of approximately 1,150 linear feet of existing timber and post guard rail in four locations between Ashford Ave. and Lomita Dr. to comply with current state safety standards. Approximately 37,000 vehicles per day travel on this portion of East Blithedale Avenue.
The project is estimated to cost $892,700 to implement, and the grant will provide $803,430. The roadside safety barriers provide protection for road users to the steep drop off from the road’s edge to Sutter Manor Creek. City staff plans to start design as early as this Spring, with construction targeted for summer 2024.
City staff appreciates this support from the state that focuses on safety of our existing street system.
