
Councilmember Urban Carmel
Urban Carmel was elected to a 4-year term on the City Council in March 2020 and is currently serving as Vice Mayor.
Prior to his term on the Council, Urban spent almost four years on the City's Planning Commission, serving as Chair in 2019. In 2009, Urban restarted the dormant Mill Valley Library Foundation, served two terms as its President and helped create a multi-million dollar endowment. Urban served on the Old Mill and Middle School Site Council for six years, including a term as President. He has been the Co-Chair of Building and Grounds for the West Point Inn for several years. After 10 years as a head coach and commissioner, Urban was given the President’s Award by the Mill Valley Soccer Club, its highest honor.
Urban was a senior consultant with McKinsey & Company in the US, Australia and Europe before moving to Hong Kong and then Indonesia to become the President of the Union Bank of Switzerland. He holds a degree in finance and economics from the Wharton School at Penn.
Urban and his wife, Lisa, have been proud Mill Valley residents for 21 years. Their two kids attended Old Mill, MVMS and graduated from Tam High.
